Wolcott Elementary Schools Summer Reading Challenge

Reading is the Key to Success

The Wolcott Elementary Schools are joining with Governor Lamont to promote reading during the summer. When children read, they build vocabulary, reinforce sight words and phonics, and improve fluency as well as comprehension. Please encourage and support your child’s reading so that he/she will not lose what has been gained in reading each year.

                              Summer Reading Guidelines

(please read carefully)

Read to your child or have your child read a minimum of 20-30 minutes each day (both fiction and non-fiction).

Your child can read on his/her own or be read to by an adult.

Record every book that your child reads (see details below).

                                Recording Your Reading

You will have 2 options for recording your books:

Option 1: Use the link below to fill in a Google Form every time your child completes a book. The form will ask you to indicate the student’s name, grade, book title, and a book rating. If you use this option, you will not have to return anything in September. By using the Google Forms, we will already have a digital record for your child.

Option 2: Keep a handwritten or typed list of the books your child reads over the summer. Using the link provided, you may print out and use the Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge Journal. If you are unable to print the journal out, you may record the titles on a

sheet of paper or a Google Doc. Titles should only be recorded when your child has finished reading.

This list will need to be turned in by September 4, 2020

How do I earn the reward activity?

By September 4, 2020, fill out and hand in: your summer reading log (either a hard copy or through Google Forms)

Thank you for your support in empowering your child’s success through reading!
